Google Updates Page Title & Meta Description Counts! (Maybe).

Some Page Titles are 70 Characters in the SERPs now!

Do you want to know why SEO is such a specialized field? It's because Search Engine updates keep us SEO Consultants on our toes. We're always learning and we're always having to pay attention to updates and consider how these updates affect on our clients.

I just read about a very exciting update to desktop search, but it may not actually be an update that's here to stay. It's possible Google is just A/B testing the idea and things could go back to normal soon. But, drumroll please...It seems that Google is increasing their Page Titles from 65 to 70 characters (as seen above) and they are increasing their meta descriptions to 100 characters per line (see below). Most descriptions are two lines long, but now, you will see some 3-line description snippets up to 278 characters (total)!

So what does this mean for you? Should you change your SEO Strategy? Right now, since this is just an A/B test, I think the best idea is to wait until Google makes it official. Keep an eye on your Click Through Ratio to see if these changes are affecting you. If/when the notice becomes official, I'll update this post so you can adjust accordingly!
